IP rating (IP68, IP67…)
Ingress Protection rating from the IEC 60529 standard: first digit = dust, second digit = water.
An IP rating (Ingress Protection) is defined by the international standard IEC 60529.
- The first digit is protection against solids/dust (6 = dust-tight).
- The second digit is protection against water (7 = temporary immersion, 8 = immersion beyond 1 m under conditions the maker sets, 9 = high-pressure hot water jets).
- X means that part was not tested (IPX4 = splash-resistant, no dust rating).
Ratings are tested in lab conditions with fresh water. Water damage is usually not covered by warranty, even on IP68 phones.
