Nits (brightness)

A unit of screen brightness (candela per square metre). Higher peak nits help in bright sunlight and with HDR.

Nits measure how bright a screen is (1 nit = 1 candela per square metre). Phone makers often quote peak brightness — the maximum a small part of the screen reaches, usually in HDR or bright sunlight — which is higher than full-screen brightness. Compare peak with peak, as stated by each maker.
