Glossary

Megapixels (MP)

Millions of pixels in a photo. More MP allows more detail and cropping, but sensor size and processing matter more for quality.

Megapixels count the pixels in a photo (1 MP = one million). Higher numbers allow larger prints and more cropping. Many high-MP cameras combine pixels (pixel binning) to make brighter 12–50 MP photos. Sensor size, lens quality and software processing affect quality more than MP alone.
